Pupils from Lewis School in Pengam are turning into musical marvels.

Pupils

Singer Chris Paul has joined the likes of Katherine Jenkins in being accepted into the National Youth Choir of Wales having previously attended the choir’s training course in North Wales and was offered a place without audition. He is currently studying for his AS Levels and is planning on going into higher education.

Eight Sixth Form and two first year students also competed in the Mid Somerset Festival in Bath recently. Sixth Former Jac Jones won the Ainsley Cup after performing the pop song Hey Ya! by Outkast alongside Adam Vile on guitar.

“It is quite a prestigious award.” said Miss Jenkins, Head of Music.

“They were up against 13 other 16 to 21-year-olds and won.”

Lloyd Perry and Alex Stacey of Year 7 performed their hearts out to an acoustic version of Rhianna’s hit Umbrella, raining on older groups’ parade to take the Blues Band award. There has also been success for trumpeter Jessica Mullins from Year 12 who has also been accepted into the Four Counties Youth Orchestra following a recent audition. Jessica intends to go to university to study music and will continue to master her instrument.

Miss Jenkins said: “They are a great bunch of kids.

“They deserve everything they got, they worked really hard for it.”
