Caerphilly Town

Two can be better than one.

That’s the message from Caerphilly County Borough council who are planning to celebrate 50 years of twinning in style.

The anniversary of twinning Caerphilly with Ludwigsburg in Germany is approaching and the council are marking the occasion with a special exhibition later this year. They are looking for people who are willing to share any photos, letters or information about friendships that have been formed over the past half a century between the two county boroughs.

It could be that you were part of a choir, office or sporting team that went on an exchange to Ludwigsburg. You may even have an international love story to tell.

These mementoes will then be displayed as part of a twinning exhibition in September.

Nicole Heller and Diana Rothfuss are two students from the German town who are on a three month exchange programme learning about the structure of a council administration and are also helping to plan the 50th anniversary celebrations.

They are keen to hear about people’s experiences and friendships developed with those from their home town.

They said, “It would be particularly interesting to see how those friendships were formed and blossomed in the years after World War II.”
