Some of the most beautiful music ever played will thrill orchestra lovers later this month when Blackwood Miners’ Institute hosts

Welsh Sinfonia

 The Welsh Sinfonia. The set list covers around 250 years of classical music and offers a good balance of popular and lesser known compositions.

In the first of a series of concerts around Wales The Cardiff based orchestra will perform symphonies and concertos from the likes of Antonio Vivaldi, Edward Elgar and Amadeus Mozart in Blackwood on Thursday, April 29. This event is a rare opportunity in Wales and sees the orchestra, now in its 20th birthday season, draw on a variety of music written by composers from as early as the 16th century.

Dangerous Liaisons - Mappa Mundi

Then take a trip back in time to Blackwood Miners’ Institute this month to see Dangerous Liaisons, a new stage production by one of Wales’ most dynamic and popular theatre companies, Mappa Mundi.

Adapted from the original 18th-century French novel, it is a story of lust, greed, deception and romance and stars Keiron Self from BBC series High Hopes and My Family. The show will be visiting Blackwood on Tuesday, April 27. The production will be a lavish portrayal of wickedness and betrayal, with some innuendo thrown in for good measure.
